SITTING PRETTY AUCTION -THE PAINTING PROCESS FOR MY CHAIR.

This is the chair I wanted to paint for "SITTING PRETTY".  It's just a simple ladder back chair painted white with a natural cane seat.

I knew I was going to use a one step craquelure process.
On this picture I have painted the chair gold and I have applied the
crackle medium.  When this medium dries, my top coat is carefully painted on. The top coat will gently crack and show the gold paint underneath.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The top coat is a dark blue.  Once the paint was dried I painted my design.
The seat was painted blue and was shellacked for protection.
The chair was given a polyurethane varnish coating for protection.

Here is a close up of my painted chair design.  I painted an inspired Peter Hunt design on this chair.  This picture shows the detail on the first two rungs of the chair.
Peter Hunt was a very famous Provincetown folk artist. He was known for his bold and exuberant painted furniture.  His painting was also called peasant decorations as he painting very simple people in brightly colored clothes. He was painting these designs during the 30's - 60's.
I called this chair, "A Cape Cod Chair" in appreciation of Peter Hunt and the joy he brought to so many people.

In this picture I am showing the bottom two rungs of the chair.
