SITTING PRETTY AUCTION -THE PAINTING PROCESS FOR MY CHAIR.

This is the chair I wanted to paint for "SITTING PRETTY".  It's just a simple ladder back chair painted white with a natural cane seat.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I knew I was going to use a one step craquelure process.
On this picture I have painted the chair gold and I have applied the
crackle medium.  When this medium dries, my top coat is carefully painted on. The top coat will gently crack and show the gold paint underneath.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The top coat is a dark blue.  Once the paint was dried I painted my design.
The seat was painted blue and was shellacked for protection.
The chair was given a polyurethane varnish coating for protection.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a close up of my painted chair design.  I painted an inspired Peter Hunt design on this chair.  This picture shows the detail on the first two rungs of the chair.
Peter Hunt was a very famous Provincetown folk artist. He was known for his bold and exuberant painted furniture.  His painting was also called peasant decorations as he painting very simple people in brightly colored clothes. He was painting these designs during the 30's - 60's.
I called this chair, "A Cape Cod Chair" in appreciation of Peter Hunt and the joy he brought to so many people.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In this picture I am showing the bottom two rungs of the chair.

A great place for pies, sweet or savory.
We recently spent the day in Chatham.  We started our day with coffee and cinnamon nut rolls - OMG!
They were so good.
For lunch we had the seafood pie.  It was delicious.  Cape Cod food at its best.  This pie is loaded with shrimp, lobster, scallops, and fish in a sherry cream sauce and the crust is light and flaky.  Love this pie.
Extensive menu - pies, muffins, cupcakes, pasta, quiche, chili, ice cream.

  It's a bookstore, it's a restaurant, it's a late night tavern.

BOOKSTORE  Small but has an excellent selection of books and comics.

RESTAURANT  Excellant raw bar.  Their Wellfleet oysters are great - very fresh and delicious.  Love their clam chowder.  Lots of seafood entrees.  Love the Portuguese Stew.  My husband enjoyed their Steak Frites.  Great view overlooking Wellfleet Harbor.

BOMB SHELTER PUB  Late night tavern open from 4 pm - 1 am.  The pub is located below the restaurant & bookstore.  It's a no frills bar with pool table and dartboards.  Good selection of beers and reasonable prices.  This is a place where all the locals go.

A fun and historic building, the tavern faces a tidal creek.  It is the oldest existing tavern in Wellfleet and it offers fine food and music.
I've never eaten here.  I chose to paint Duck Creeke Tavern because I liked the name.  It has received mixed reviews on the internet.

Congratulations to Lucia & Benji

Brides' Box for Lucia & Benji.  Wedding in San Juan, Puerto Rico April 6, 2013.
Commissioned by Benji's father, Jim.  I worked with photos of the bride and groom.  Everything in the painting has significance to them.  Their Wheaten Terrier is a beloved member of the family so he had to be included in the painting.

One side of the restaurant is a pizza parlor and the other side is for ice cream and bakery items.
This restaurant is not in my painting but should have been!  When I was choosing restaurants for my painting Savory & The Great Escape wasn't in Truro.  There aren't a lot of eateries in Truro so this place is welcomed by everyone.
Their menu has paninis, sandwiches, pizza, breakfast items, coffee and an expresso bar, bakery items from their own pastry chef, and homemade ice cream.
My husband and I stopped there after visiting friends.  My husband had the Tutto pizza - lots of pepperoni and Italian sausages.  He loved it.  I had the buffalo chicken wrap - yummy.  I was full but my husband had an ice cream waffle  cone with Charlie Coconuts Almond Joy ice cream - very delicious.
Looks like a great place to have breakfast.  Their bakery items looked mouth watering.

2. Restaurants By The Sea: FRIDAY AT ATLANTIC SPICE COMPANY

Atlantic Spice Company
2 Shore Road
North Truro, MA 02652
508 487 6100

Atlantic Spice Company is not a restaurant but a must stop when you're in Truro - it's a true hidden gem.
You will find gourmet spices, teas, essential oils, kitchenwares, potpourri and exotic rices.  All at wholesale prices.
Atlantic Spice Company is located in a large blue warehouse - where Route 6 and Route 6A meet in Truro.  The store is in the front of the warehouse.  The building will be on the left on Route 6 if you're coming from the mid-cape.
You'll love browsing around and looking at everything.
What I like about Atlantic Spice Company is you can buy small quantities of spices and what you buy is very fresh.  I still have supermarket spices that I bought years ago.  You know the ones - spices you need for one or two recipes.  I need to throw them out and replace them at Atlantic Spice Company.

A SEA OF DIAMONDS

One of my newer paintings.  It is a 6" x 6" gallery wrapped canvas painting.  Gallery wrap means the painting doesn't need to be framed - it is 1 1/2" deep and is painted on the top, sides, and bottom.
Have you ever gone to the beach and seen the ocean glistening in the sunlight? I've tried to capture that light in this painting with glitter sprinkled across the ocean.
I have added three charms on the bottom of the painting.  One is round with a crystal in the middle, another is a mermaid pendant, and the last one is a sand dollar.  All three charms are silver toned.
Just put this painting on Etsy as of 4/3/13.

1. Restaurants By The Sea: FRIDAY AT NAPI'S

NAPI'S RESTAURANT
7 FREEMAN AVENUE
PROVINCETOWN, MA 02657
508 487 1145                                                                                          PRICE RANGE:  $$

I love this restaurant!  It's tucked away on a side street.  When you first see this restaurant,  you feel like you've  found a hidden treasure.  It's a one of a kind restaurant. I think people would say it has "local color".
Napi's is intimate and quiet.  Off-season will be more relaxing with few tourists.  Summer is busier all over the Cape but you will still enjoy yourself.
Wonderful international cuisine.  If you'll looking for fresh fish entrees you will have several delicious choices.
The clam chowder and Portuguese kale soup are really good.  Wonderful especially when the weather is inclement.  My husband and I have never been disappointed with their food.
Unique interior filled with an eclectic display of artwork.  Napi and his wife have been collecting Provincetown artwork for years - he should have his own art museum.
If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of Napi eating lunch or dinner in the dining room. He's a very charming man.  I  had a wonderful conversation with him about his art collection.
Here's the link to Napi's.

RESTAURANTS BY THE SEA

I painted this a few years ago to celebrate Cape Cod's fifteen towns.  Every town is represented by a restaurant that resides in that town.
I thought it would be fun to write a restaurant review for each restaurant painted.
For anyone visiting the Cape this summer I hope I can give you some ideas for eating out.  For those of you living on Cape Cod you will be familiar with these restaurants - I hope you'll like my choices!
For the next 15 weeks on Friday I will review one of the 15 restaurants that I painted.

I do love mermaids and sailors!

New 6" Wooden Painted Mermaid Bowl

I just finished painting this cute little mermaid bowl.  I think I'll paint a redhead, brunette and black haired mermaid for my next three bowls.  This mermaid reminds me of my dolls when I was a little girl. I had to have at least four dolls - one for each hair color.

IT'S AN IRISH THING "I'M AN IRISH MISS".

A  mermaid for St. Patricks's Day.  I have painted this Irish miss to celebrate your Irish roots.  This card is a great way to bring Ireland into your home.
